Celebrating International Women's Day

NASA Astronaut Christina Hammock Koch recently set a record for the longest single spaceflight in history by a woman, with her 328-day mission. 17-year-old Greta Thunberg was named the person of the year by Time magazine in 2019 for inspiring 4 million people to join the global climate change movement. In December 2019, Sanna Marin became the world’s youngest female state leader and the youngest Prime Minister in Finnish history. Raised in a ‘rainbow’ family, she introduced a gender neutral – equal parental leave policy shortly after assuming her post. These girls and women have truly made their mark in roles and fields where traditionally women have been underrepresented. Their spectacular achievements have paved the way for both the younger and older generations to come together and make a difference.

Each year, the United Nations celebrates March 8 as International Women’s Day. This year, the theme is “Generation Equality—Realizing women’s rights and an equal future”. “The campaign demands equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end to sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women and girls, health-care services that respond to their needs, and their equal participation in political life and decision-making in all areas of life.” Watch an interesting video released by UN.
